BILS

Different projects funded by different donor agencies are the main life force of BILS. As a voluntary non profit organisation BILS provides the services to the trade union and working people through these foreign and locally funded projects. Here is the chart of BILS project and funding organisations through which the above mentioned programmes are materialised.

BILS/LO-FTF Project

Funded by LO-FTF council, Denmark. This is the continuous third tree years phase of the partnership between BILS and the LO-FTF Council that began in 1997. The project provides the funds for core activities of BILS and the activities in the field of labour law and workers rights and youth leadership development. Main objectives of the project are-
1. Human Resource Development
2. Policy Making and Advocacy
3. NTUCs Capacity to organise workers

BILS/UNISON Project

Funded by UNISON, UK the project is going to undertake a massive campaign to integrate the mass people on the Trade Union position against privatisation of state owned service sectors including water, electricity and telecommunication.

BILS/SSN Project

Campaign for Social safety Net for working people funded by Manusher Jonno, a consortium of donor organisations. This is the second largest project of BILS. Main objectives are to-
1. Ensuring Minimum living wage for workers
2. Maternity Protection of the women workers
(Rice Mill, Construction, Shrimp Processing and RMG are the basic sectors)

BILS/WWD Project

Funded by Canadian Labour Congress. Presently the project is working for preparing a Common Demand for Women Workers. Besides it undertakes programmes for women leadership development through capacity building of the women's committees of the NTUCs, that was resulted from the core activities of the project. Initially the two years' project was funded by the Commonwealth Trade Union Council (CTUC). Later the CLC started funding the follow-up activities. Major goals of the project activities are to:

1. Protection of Women's Rights at Work
2. Development of women leadership
3. Integrating more women in trade union
4. Integrate women Trade Union leaders in the mainstream TU movement.

BILS/CLE Project

Funded by the LO-FTF Council the project is presently running three centers in Gazipur and Keraniganaj near Dhaka. Each center has non-formal education and technical training service for the underprivileged children from the 12-14 age group. The main objectives of the project are:
1. Elimination of child labour
2. Training and education for under privileged children
3. Training on workers' rights before entering into the labour market

The project also runs a Primary Health Care services for the trainees and students of the centers. Besides, a Motor Mechanic Workshop is also being run by the project to provide intensive training on the trade to the graduates of the centers and those interested from outside. Both the services are being funded by the LO-FTF Council, Denmark.

BILS/OSHE Project

Funded by FNV/LO-FTF the project is now over. Presently follow-up activities are being implemnented through small funds availed from different organisations like ILO and others. Create awareness on OHSE issues in four selected sectors like- Construction, rice mills, match factory and electricity is the main activity of the project. The main objectives are:
1. Ensuring a secured and safe work place for all
2. Making the trade union members and the workers aware about the occupational hazards.

BILS-HIV/AIDS Project (2006-2007)

Funded by the Danish Embassy in Dhaka the project worked for integrating trade unions in fighting HIV/AIDS vulnerability among the working people. Transport sector was the main focus of the project. After completion of a pilot basis awareness raising campaign about the vulnerability of HIV/AIDS among the minor road workers in coastal belt in collaboration of the Danish Embassy BILS now in running the present project. The main objectives are to:

1. To create greater awareness among the workers on HIV/AIDS prevention.
2. To sensitize and capacity build on trade unions (members & leaders) within public sector and minor road transport workers.
3. To develop workplace initiatives on prevention of HIV infection.
